Fairy Gifts
She received her first fairy gifts in the cradle, when she was too young to know what they were.
When we think about gifts from fairies, we think of fairy tales, the old times, when magic was plentiful. But they still exist. Fairy gifts were never strictly reserved for princes and princesses, they also came to ordinary people. But they came without pomp and circumstance, quietly, often in the middle of the night.
The point of a fairy gift, often enough, is that the fairies can tell when someone will need more than ordinary gifts to survive their life. But for all their age, fairies are not always wise. They don’t necessarily give gifts that will be useful or pleasant to have. They mean well, but good intentions don’t always make good gifts.
And even when the gifts are useful, they don’t come with instructions.
She learned to use the fairy gifts before she knew she had them, and eventually, they became second nature to her. She would use them when she didn’t need to, or when they weren’t the best tool she had. She used them, because she had never known what it was like not to use them. And as she grew older, they began to make her life more complicated.
